KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia and MANILA, Philippines, Sept. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Sungrow, a globally leading PV inverter and energy storage system provider and ERS Energy, a leading solar engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company in Malaysia, have reached a significant milestone in the strategic partnership, with energy storage projects totaling 1 GWh across Malaysia and the Philippines. Marked by a signing ceremony, the milestone highlights the two companies' growing collaboration in meeting the region's evolving grid and renewable energy needs.

Malaysia: Strengthening Grid Stability and Unlocking Greater Solar Integration

Located in Bahau, Malaysia, the 441 MWh, four-hour MyBeST project, with ERS Energy serving as the EPC contractor, forms part of Malaysia's national large-scale battery energy storage initiative led by the Energy Commission of Malaysia, Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST).

As Malaysia continues to increase its renewable energy capacity, large-scale energy storage can play a critical role in balancing supply and demand. By storing electricity when supply is abundant and dispatching it when needed, the BESS can provide greater flexibility for the grid and help accommodate a higher share of variable renewable generation. With 441 MWh of energy storage capacity, the project will help strengthen grid stability, enable greater integration of solar power, and reduce reliance on fossil-fuel-based peaking generation, supporting Malaysia's transition toward a more flexible and resilient power system.

Philippines: Enabling Flexible Power Trading and Grid-Forming Support

In the Philippines, Sungrow and ERS Energy are collaborating on a 556 MWh, four-hour BESS project for ACEN, with ERS Energy serving as the EPC contractor.

A key highlight of the project is its grid-forming capability, enabling the BESS to provide active support for grid voltage and frequency. The project will participate in the country's Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), enabling electricity to be stored and dispatched according to market conditions. This market-responsive operating model can help optimize the use of stored electricity while supporting a more responsive and reliable power system.

Meeting Different Market Needs with Energy Storage

From supporting grid flexibility and renewable energy integration in Malaysia to enabling flexible electricity market participation and grid-forming capabilities in the Philippines, the two projects demonstrate how energy storage can be tailored to different market needs while delivering value across the power system.

"The question for Southeast Asia is no longer whether we can generate more renewable energy, but whether our power systems are ready to support it," said Michael Ruan, Southeast Asia Director of Sungrow. "That is where energy storage makes the difference. Together with ERS Energy, we are helping build the flexibility and resilience needed to unlock more renewable energy and deliver reliable power for communities and businesses across the region."

Looking ahead, Sungrow will continue to empower partners across Southeast Asia with advanced energy storage solutions to strengthen grids, enable greater renewable energy integration and build a more resilient energy future.
