With a large majority of its Singapore students in kindergarten and primary school, Mathnasium is seeing sustained interest in personalised maths learning that focuses on understanding, number sense and confidence

SINGAPORE, Aug. 25, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Recently, Mathnasium Singapore's Forum centre has grown to serve more than 300 students, as families continue to seek maths enrichment that builds strong foundations from an early age.

The milestone comes as the large majority of Mathnasium Singapore's students are now of kindergarten and primary school age, reflecting the importance families place on developing mathematical understanding well before major examinations become the main focus.

Rather than focusing primarily on repetitive practice or memorising procedures, Mathnasium's approach begins by identifying how each child understands maths, where gaps exist and which concepts require further development.

This philosophy is central to the Mathnasium Method™, which uses diagnostic assessments and customised learning plans to help students develop mathematical understanding at their own pace. Each student works directly with trained instructors and follows an individual plan based on their strengths, learning gaps and goals.

Mathnasium's Singapore website similarly describes its approach as beginning with a diagnostic assessment, followed by an assessment-based personalised learning plan and face-to-face instruction.

Building Understanding Before Exam Pressure

For younger learners in particular, Mathnasium places emphasis on developing number sense, or an understanding of what numbers mean and how they relate to one another.

Rather than teaching children only how to arrive at an answer, instructors use mental, visual, verbal, tactile and written techniques to help students understand the reasoning behind mathematical concepts. This foundation progresses from early arithmetic through to more advanced areas of mathematics.

For Mathnasium Singapore, this approach reflects the belief that confidence in maths is often built well before a child reaches an examination year.

The learning environment also plays a role. Students are encouraged to progress at their own pace, while recognition and rewards are incorporated into sessions to help make learning more engaging. Mathnasium Singapore also places emphasis on an upbeat learning environment designed to help children become more confident and comfortable with the subject.

This combination of individual instruction, conceptual understanding and encouragement has become particularly relevant at Forum, where Mathnasium continues to see strong participation from younger students.

A Personalised Approach to Maths Learning

No two students enter a maths programme with exactly the same strengths and gaps.

Mathnasium therefore begins each student's programme with an assessment before developing an individual learning plan. This allows instructors to work on areas requiring additional attention while continuing to develop existing strengths.

The approach differs from a conventional class structure in which students typically progress through the same material at the same pace. At Mathnasium, students work directly with instructors while following their respective learning plans.

This approach provides individual instruction rather than a traditional class model, with students working at their own pace while supported by trained instructors.

According to Mathnasium, its wider network has also recorded positive parent and student outcomes. Published survey results state that 94 per cent of parents reported an improvement in their child's maths skills and understanding, while 93 per cent reported an improved attitude towards maths. The data also states that 90 per cent of students saw an improvement in their school grades.

These figures represent results reported across Mathnasium's wider global network and should not be interpreted as outcomes specific to the Forum centre.

Adapting to Singapore's Education Environment

While building mathematical foundations remains central to its teaching philosophy, Mathnasium Singapore has continued to adapt its curriculum to the requirements of students studying in Singapore.

This includes supporting students preparing for the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) while continuing to emphasise underlying concepts, critical thinking and mathematical understanding.

Mathnasium's current PSLE programme, for example, begins with an assessment of each student's strengths and weaknesses before creating a customised plan targeting areas requiring further development. The programme places emphasis on conceptual understanding alongside examination preparation.

Mathnasium Singapore has also introduced enhanced student progress reports and provides in-centre, Mathnasium@home hybrid and fully online learning options.

Holiday programmes are also available across different grade levels for international and local school students, alongside dedicated PSLE preparation options.

These different formats allow families to select an approach that fits their children's learning needs and schedules while retaining the same underlying emphasis on individualised maths instruction.

Growing Through Confidence and Understanding

For Mathnasium Singapore, reaching more than 300 students at Forum represents more than an enrolment milestone. It also reflects the centre's focus on making maths understandable and engaging for children at different stages of their learning journey.

"Reaching more than 300 students at Forum reflects the trust families have placed in how we teach, not just what we teach. Every child starts from a different point, so understanding their strengths and gaps is important before deciding how to move forward. Our aim is to help children understand maths, build confidence and develop foundations that will support them for life."

About Mathnasium

Founded in the United States in 2002, Mathnasium is a maths-only learning programme built around the proprietary Mathnasium Method™. The approach uses diagnostic assessments, customised learning plans and face-to-face instruction to help students understand how maths works while developing their skills and confidence.

Mathnasium has more than 1,200 locations worldwide and provides learning support from early childhood through secondary school.

In Singapore, Mathnasium's Forum centre is located at Forum, The Shopping Mall, 583 Orchard Road. The centre provides in-person instruction as well as live online instruction through Mathnasium@home.
