About PMP
The Police Mentorship Programme (PMP) was first launched in 2004 as a proactive recruitment strategy to inspire university students to join the Force after graduation. Police Mentors acted as role models and led mentees from their alma mater to share with them knowledge, experience and challenges in their police career. Since 2018, PMP was extended to include Hong Kong students from Mainland and overseas universities.
Through PMP, mentees enjoy opportunities to participate in a diverse range of activities, such as visits to police units, interview workshops, and as summer/ winter interns across over a hundred different police units.
Since academic year (AY) 2023/24, PMP is expanded and revamped to encompass all post-secondary students, whose education attainment would meet the academic requirements for joining the Force upon graduation. Project Achieve, which was launched in 2018 and targeted students of post-secondary institutions, shall be incorporated into PMP.
There are five streams under PMP, namely:
In recent years, 1 in 4 PMP (Hong Kong, Mainland and Overseas) mentees who applied for Probationary Inspector and 1 in 3 PMP (Tertiary and DAE) mentees (Former Project ACHIEVE members) who applied for Police Constable were successful. The success rates are significantly higher than the overall average success rate of 1 in 27 for Probationary Inspector, and 1 in 10 for Police Constable in the preceding 5 years.
